Early Childhood Department Curriculum The curriculum used in the Early Childhood Department is published by Gospel Light. It is a comprehensive, easy-to-use plan which gives our teachers the freedom to devote precious hours to our primary ministry goals of shepherding children towards a lifelong faith. The scope of this curriculum provides a solid long-term plan for teaching the Bible to young children. The music, games and art projects are fun for kids, making Church School an enjoyable experience. Children are excited to come back each week to learn more about God and His love. Nursery Audrey Gray, our Nursery Supervisor, is back for another year to provide gentle, loving care for our infants and toddlers at both services on Sunday mornings. Audrey is a degreed elementary education professional and our youngsters love being around her. Joining Audrey in a professional capacity is Holly Bartlett. These women are but one of a number of volunteers each week. You will feel comfortable knowing your children are in good hands while you attend Worship at either 9:30 or 11:00. 2’s and 3’s Kathleen Horak, the supervisor of the 2’s and 3”s class, has been serving in the Early Childhood Department at The Church in Aurora for 31 years. Kathleen looks at her service to our church as a ministry to young children and their families. She is ably assisted each week at 9:30 by Rita Suchanek, Kim Sinclair and JoAnn French and Sharon Leslee, all of whom have volunteered in the department over the years. We are blessed to be able to provide a loving, consistent presence through song, crafts and Bible lessons for these youngsters every week at 9:30 from September through June. 4’s and 5’s
Mindy Rogge and Julie Morris are the co-teachers of our pre-school class. Mindy and Julie love teaching this age child and are teaming up this year to assist the children in using their curiosity to discover God’s presence in their world. The fall curriculum is based on Genesis, chapters 1 through 26. This class runs from September through May at the 9:30 hour. Kindergarten
Darla and Martin Braun, also co-teachers, are returning for their eleventh year to teach our Kindergarten class. Their class is pure excitement and their creativity has been contagious. Many of their puppet innovations helped to inspire our Rotation Program for older children. Our kindergarteners will experience the Bible first hand as they literally become God’s chosen people using every sensory means possible to learn God’s important lessons and to share His promises. This class runs from September through May at the 9:30 hour. |
