Church Camp 2011

August 7 - 13

Camp will be held at Tar Hollow from Sunday, August 7, through Saturday, August 13.  The cost is $195 if paid by May 20th ($215 afterward).  A sibling discount will save each youth from the same family an additional $10.  Applications for campers and staff are available online at www.sfacamp.org.  Campers cannot drive themselves to camp, but parents may coordinate with each other to transport campers to and from camp.

Rev. Schnell will be keeping a list of those youth attending in case families wish to connect for purposes of caravanning to and from Tar Hollow.  Camper applications for Church Camp 2011 are now online at www.sfacamp.org.  Adults young and old will also find applications for a variety of staff roles.

Additional info from Rev. Schnell from the May Spire:

The month of August will find between ten and twenty of our youth and young adults attending church camp.  The unique thing about church camp is that there are no fundraisers to fund it, or adult participants to encourage it or staff support to even advertise it beyond an article such as this.  It is a program that continues year after year strictly on the enthusiasm of the campers themselves.

If a young person goes to camp, there is a very good chance that he or she will continue to go.  I have been going to this camp since I was in 6th grade.  Among the staff are counselors who began attending as campers while members of the first church I served as pastor over 25 years ago.

Last year one of the featured speakers at camp was the President of the Daytona International Speedway.  How did we get him?  He was a former camper and staff person.  A Vice-President of IBM has served on our staff.  Last year’s "Counselor of the Year" award went to a practicing physician.  The camp has received numerous awards and recognition over the years from Parents Magazine to Ohio’s Governor.

Camp always takes place the first full week in August with Sunday counted as day one.  That means this year’s dates are August 7-13.  The cost is $215.00 and includes everything: T-shirt, camp photo, yearbook, crafts, meals, snacks, classes, etc.  There is an early bird discount of $20 if registering before May 20.  There is a further discount of $10 per child for siblings attending from the same family.  Finally, "camperships" are available where there is financial need.

Registration information, forms, videos and a host of other online ways to experience camp can be found at: www.sfacamp.org.  About the only thing not provided for on that web site is transportation to and from Tar Hollow State Park where camp is held each year in its group camp area.  Here is where I can be of some assistance, but you must help me help you.  If you let me know who from your family is attending this year, I will keep a list so that if you want to be partnered with another family for transportation purposes I can share that list with you.  In other words, one family can drive the youth to camp on Sunday and another family can drive to pick them up on Saturday.  If you can email that information to me at Wsch@aol.com, please put Church Camp in the subject line.

As usual, I will plan to be at camp for at least the second half of the week so that I can participate in Baptism, Communion, Vespers, Chapel and Closing services; and continue listening for God to speak as he does so powerfully in the voice of his youth.
